Learn how to set up the NetDocuments integration and use your organization’s files directly in Harvey, without downloading local copies.

Overview

The NetDocuments integration connects your document management system (DMS) to Harvey so you can upload files directly from NetDocuments. You keep your existing security and access controls while enabling faster, more consistent work in Harvey.

This integration allows you to:

  • Search NetDocuments by matter, client, folder, or file
  • Filter by cabinet
  • Upload files directly into Assistant threads, Workflows, or vaults
  • Work without creating local copies

Key Concepts

  • Cabinets: Top-level storage areas in NetDocuments. Harvey displays only the cabinets you already have permission to access.
  • Matters, Folders, and Files: In the NetDocuments file picker, you can search by matter, client, folder, or file name — or navigate the NetDocuments folder hierarchy.
  • Uploading vs. Syncing: You can upload individual files. Folder uploads, one-way sync, and two-way sync aren’t supported at this time.
  • Permissions: If you can’t access something in NetDocuments, you won’t be able to upload it into Harvey.

For Admins: Set Up the NetDocuments Integration

  1. Navigate to SettingsIntegrations.
  2. Select NetDocuments in the list of supported DMS integrations.
  3. Choose Connect NetDocuments. You’ll be redirected to NetDocuments to authenticate.
  4. Sign in with an account that has cabinet-level permissions. This ensures users can access the correct content.
  5. Approve requested permissions. Harvey needs access to read metadata and retrieve files selected by users.
  6. Confirm successful connection. Once connected, the integration appears as enabled in the Integrations list.

After setup:

All users with NetDocuments permissions can browse and upload files in Harvey.


Use NetDocuments Files in Harvey

  1. Open Files > NetDocuments
  2. If prompted, authenticate your account by signing into NetDocuments.
  3. Grant Harvey access to your files.
  4. Filter by cabinet. Choose the cabinet relevant to your matter or client.
  5. Search or browse.
    • Search by matter, client, folder, or file
    • Or navigate through folders
  6. Select files. Choose one or more files to upload. Harvey imports only the items you select.

Current Capabilities

The NetDocuments integration is designed for secure, file-level access. At this time, this feature does not support:

  • Importing over 50 files in a single upload
  • Folder-level uploads
  • Folder syncing (one-way or two-way)
  • Exporting content back into NetDocuments

Tips for Success

  • Start by searching by matter or client for the most accurate matches.
  • Upload only the files necessary for your task to keep Assistant responses focused.
  • Use vaults to organize reusable files for teams working on similar matters.
  • If a file doesn’t appear, confirm NetDocuments permissions with your admin.
  • If your organization currently uses the NetDocs Browser Extension, you can continue to use it. However, the native NetDocuments integration offers more reliable performance and supports all operating systems.
